How AutoCodes works
A useful explanation does not begin by telling you which part to buy. It separates the warning, its scope and the safety signals.
Step 01
Choose what you have
Start with an OBD-II code, a dashboard light, a VIN or a recall search by year, make and model.
- Codes and lights are explained locally.
- A VIN leaves your browser only after you press the NHTSA button.
- NHTSA campaigns refer to the United States market.
Step 02
Read scope, not a verdict
A code points to a system or detected condition. It does not prove by itself that one particular part has failed.
- First: general meaning.
- Then: possible causes in a useful order.
- Finally: safe checks and stop-driving signals.
Step 03
Keep the context
Note when the warning appeared, engine temperature, related codes and any noise, smell or power loss.
Step 04
Confirm before repairing
Use the printable sheet to speak with a workshop or compare the manufacturer’s technical information. AutoCodes is an educational guide, not remote diagnosis.
