How it works

Use cases · AutoCodes

More context before opening the toolbox. Understand OBD-II codes and dashboard lights, possible causes, safe checks and when to stop driving. Query official VIN data and recalls only when you choose.

VIN

Identify the vehicle by VIN

vPIC provides basic data mainly for vehicles regulated in the United States. An empty field does not mean the vehicle lacks that feature.

  • The request happens only when you press the button and goes directly to the public NHTSA vPIC API. Chapa Lab does not store the VIN.
  • An absent, incomplete or failed response does not mean zero recalls. NHTSA data is shown in its original language and may have blank fields or warnings. A year, make and model search cannot confirm the status of an individual VIN.

OBD-II

Print report

Save all codes and freeze-frame data before clearing memory.

  • Original editorial content; always confirm manufacturer procedures and specifications.
  • A code is a clue; it does not prove that one particular part has failed.

!

Oil pressure

A red oil-pressure warning can indicate insufficient lubrication. Stop safely and switch off the engine. This is not a service reminder; check the level only with the engine off on level ground.

P0300

Random or multiple-cylinder misfire detected

The control module has detected irregular combustion, random or involving multiple cylinders. Unburned fuel can damage the catalyst.

  • Do not continue if the engine light flashes, the engine shakes heavily or unburned fuel can be smelled.

NHTSA

Search US safety recalls

General results by year, make and model. They do not prove that one particular vehicle is affected.
